SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
Thank you for joining and exploring City of De Pere social media websites and content. We encourage your participation and hope you will share your opinions on our issues. By taking part in discussions on our pages, you are agreeing to the policy outlined below:
Social media website pages are not the primary method of communication with the City, and any notices or requests for City services must be made via official communication methods identified on the City’s website, or by traditional methods of notification recognized by the City, and no comments or posts on this page will be construed as providing notice to the City of any claim, deficiency, dangerous condition, request, or otherwise.
Comment Standards
The purpose of this site is to present matters of public interest and concern to City of De Pere residents, businesses, visitors and other interested parties. You may submit your comments, but please note this is a moderated online discussion site and not a public forum. The City of De Pere reserves the right to restrict or remove any content that it deems, in its sole discretion, in violation of its social media policy, these public comment guidelines or any applicable law. By way of example and not limitation, the City of De Pere may restrict or remove, without further notice to you, information found on its social media pages that contains the following content:
- i. Comments not topically related to the particular social media article being commented upon;
- ii. Continuous posting of repetitive text;
- iii. Defamation or false information;
- iv. Comments in support of or in opposition to political campaigns or ballot measures;
- v. Profane language or content;
- vi. Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status
- with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation;
- vii. Sexual content or links to sexual content;
- viii. Solicitations of commerce;
- ix. Conducting or encouraging illegal activity;
- x. Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; or
- xi. Content that violates a legal ownership or reputational interest of any other party.
The comments expressed on the City’s social media sites do not reflect the opinions and position of the City of De Pere or its officers and employees.
Activity on City of De Pere Government Social Media pages is subject to public disclosure (Wis. Stat. §§19.31-19.39) and retention including the time, date, and identity of the poster, when available.

Page Monitoring
The City of De Pere's social media accounts are not monitored 24/7, and as such, posts and responses should not be immediately expected. Accounts are irregularly monitored as workload and staff time permits, generally during normal business hours, excluding holidays. Due to these limitations, these pages are provided for informational purposes only and City staff may or may not respond to comments made on social media. Inappropriate comments made by non-City authors may or may not be removed in a timely manner.
