Installing a Pool, Hot Tub, or Pond

Want to install a swimming pool, hot tub or backyard pond but not sure what the process is and what requirements you need to follow? The City of De Pere requires building permits for the installation of swimming pools, hot tubs, spas and back yard ponds as specified in Section 54-8 of the De Pere Municipal Code. The purpose is to provide for the health, safety and welfare of both property owners and the surrounding neighborhood. To install a pool, hot tub or pond in the City of De Pere, here’s the key information you need to know to help make this project a reality.

Five Key Things to know about Swimming Pools, Hot Tubs & Backyard Ponds

  1. Shall be located in the rear yard only.
  2. Shall not be located over or under electrical service conductors.
  3. Requires guarding, meaning a fence enclosure. (See fence requirements.)
  4. May require additional permits including fence, deck and electrical permits.
  5. Each year, nationwide, about 300 children under the age of 5 drown in swimming pools. Because of this, extra precautions must be taken to ensure their safety and well-being.
