In December of 2022, Greener Bay Compost proposed to the De Pere Sustainability Commission that the City of De Pere support Greener Bay Compost’s mission to divert as many food scraps and associated organics from our local landfills as possible, by covering half the cost of our Award-Winning Residential Compost Pickup Services for City of De Pere residents, up to a dollar amount of the City’s choosing.

In November of 2023, $10,000.00 for “food waste composting services” was approved by the De Pere Common Council for inclusion in the Mayor’s Executive Budget for calendar year 2024.

In April of 2024, the De Pere Sustainability Commission and De Pere Common Council agreed to Greener Bay Compost’s proposal and the the City and Greener Bay Compost officially entered into a Public-Private Partnership with each other to establish the De Pere Food Scraps and Organics Program, which is intended to:

  • make composting at home more accessible and affordable to more people residing in the City of De Pere
  • reduce the City’s expenses, relative to the hauling and disposal of wet, heavy food waste and save De Pere taxpayers’ money
  • divert as many food scraps and associated organics from our local landfills as possible, to delay Brown County’s need to build another landfill in the near future, thus saving all Brown County taxpayers’ money
  • create a “culture of composting” within the borders of De Pere, which will hopefully spread into neighboring Municipalities, and promote, generally, the concept of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

City of De Pere Residents can sign up HERE to participate.
